Come make art inspired by our current photography exhibit Lars Tunbjork – A View from the Side. After a guided tour of the exhibit, you’ll get a chance to create your own artwork inspired by the famous photographs.
Taking inspiration from Tunbjork’s sense of humor, absurdity, color, and commentary, you’ll create your own scenes with surprising elements. Collage is a very freeing and immediate medium for all skill levels to express ideas and moods. Magazines, newspapers, and different types of paper will be provided as materials, and you’re encouraged to bring any materials you’d like to use.
Enough materials will be provided for you to make at least one large collage or several smaller ones to take home.
Lars Tunbjork (1956-2015) is one of Sweden’s most internationally renowned photographers, famous for capturing a sense of strangeness and absurdity in the most ordinary scenes. His photographs are astute commentaries on modern life and humanity, evoking a sense of familiarity that suddenly turns to absurdity, humor, or strangeness. Ordinary aisles of a grocery store, cubicles in an office building, or an empty park, suddenly become theater sets with very mysterious or improbable plays taking place. Though his images may look pre-arranged or staged, they are actually the result of hours of waiting in one spot to capture just the right moment.
Lars Tunbjork – A View from the Side exhibit is on view April 28 – July 7, 2024.
