Bio: Erik Akervall, Director & Producer

Erik was born in Stockholm, Sweden and became deaf when he was 1.5 years old.  Today he is 37 years young and feels privileged to be part of a fantastic minority, the deaf world.  Erik has been able to travel and see the world and has mastered seven languages.

Erik’s inspiration for The Hunt For The Sea’s Black Gold came after he found a 30 year old video, produced by his dad, filming his dad (Erik’s grandfather) fishing for lobster.  Erik decided to make his own timeless version about his own dad and a fishing buddy. The film’s surrounding is incredibly scenic and Erik had a fantastic experience describing and documenting his dad’s 55 years of fishing.

As a director and producer, Erik has made several award-winning, sign language series and films that have been broadcasted on TV in different countries such as Sweden, Denmark, UK and Norway.

The Hunt For The Sea’s Black Gold is Erik’s first documentary film that is not in sign language and which is aimed at a mainstream, hearing audience.
