FRIDAY NIGHT LECTURE SERIES

ARTS & CRAFTS
Nisse Gnome Ornament Workshop

November 23, 2024

 11 am

Nordia House

NORDIC NORTHWEST MEMBERS: $40

GENERAL ADMISSION: $45

TICKETS INCLUDE MATERIALS

Nisse go by many names from all of the Nordic countries including tomte, tonttu, and tufte. The story is a tale as old as time! Their name comes from the Old Norse word niðsi meaning “dear little relative,”. Tradition says that they live in houses, barns, and farms and act as quite the little guardians. In modern times you can find them all over the world as a representative of Christmas. You can always recognize them by their long beard, hat, and big nose.

Learn to weave your own gnome ornament for your home. In this workshop you will learn how to do a little wet felting to create a cute little gnome nose and then we will warp a circular loom together to create a woven gnome ornament. Walk away from this class with a completed gnome ornament ready to give to others or keep for yourself.

About your instructor, Rachael Grow

Rachael Grow has been a formal instructor since 2019, but she has been sharing her “how to” tips with friends and family members for years. Her passion for fiber arts started when she was 6 years old, that’s when her mother taught her to crochet. From there it was love at first stitch and Rachael pursued learning as many different fiber arts as possible. She has a passion for art yarns and loves to create projects with handmade yarns, especially small weavings. When Rachael isn’t frolicking with fiber she is playing with her family in Portland, Oregon.
