UPCOMING VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES
Field Trip Assistant
Help assist with field trips on the Nordic Northwest Campus. If you love working with students and sharing knowledge through tours, games and activities, this is going to be fun! You’ll be helping set up, prepare for, and assist during all parts of the field trips. There will be an orientation and training in everything you’ll need to know prior to the field trips.
Field Trip Lead
Do you have a background in education, or in educational tours for students? Share your skills and experience and help with fun, meaningful field trip visits for students of all ages to the Nordic Northwest Campus. Assist in shaping the content of field trips, and serve as a lead guide for groups. Our field trips are centered on Ole Bolle Troll and the entire campus, including Fogelbo and Nordia House. Subject matter includes Nordic cultures, nature education and sustainability, the history of Ole Bolle and Thomas Dambo, intersections of Nordic and global cultures, and Nordic languages.
Office Scanning Project
Do you love organizing? We are looking for additional help with digitizing our accounting records. This is an ongoing volunteer opportunity. Basic computer skills and comfort learning/using our scanner would be great. You will be working with Karen, our accountant. Availability ideally on Fridays, but any day/time would be greatly appreciated.
The Boxtrolls Film Screening on August 11, 2024
We are looking for a volunteer to help check-in attendees and tend the bar. Volunteers will be trained by staff and are welcome to stay through the movie.
Twice Colonized Film Screening on August 16, 2024
We are looking for a volunteer to help check-in attendees and tend the bar. Volunteers will be trained by staff and are welcome to stay through the movie.
Trash to Treasure: Family Reuse Crafting Event on August 18, 2024
Help spread the sustainable message of Ole Bolle at this outdoor event, helping attendees make crafts out of recycled materials, including birdhouses, troll costumes, fairy houses, and “trash panda” tails! Meet and mingle with educators from Scrap Pdx and ReClaim It, and learn about creative reuse in Portland!
Viking Beer Fest on August 23 & 24, 2024
Viking Beer Fest is back with an extended 2 day festival format. You can find lots more info about the beers, the Vikings, the makers, the tickets, and more at vikingbeerfest.com. Must be 21+
Volunteer Perks: Volunteers get free entry to both days, which includes a souvenir glass and 8 drink tickets. If you bring a growler at the end of the festival, we will help fill it from the remaining taps! Friday & Saturday evening Beer Tender & Beer Tender Supervisor Special: If you sign up for a Friday or Saturday evening shift (7-9:30pm), you will receive a free ticket for ScanFair or a Skal Night of your choosing, and a party flower crown.
Afternoon Finnish Contemporary Strings on September 8, 2024

ONGOING OPPORTUNITIES

Office Assistance:
Help us with event preparation, reception, digitizing archives, mailings, and other office tasks.
Tour Guides & Docents:
Lead groups on architecture tours of Nordia House and the Nordic Northwest Campus. We also have volunteer opportunities to be part of the quarterly Fogelbo Tours.
Stewardship, Volunteer & Membership
Assist with active community outreach campaigns to recruit new members and volunteers and attend volunteer fairs.
Facilities & Groundskeeping:
Spend time beautifying and brush-clearing at Fogelbo, potting plants or gardening at Nordia House through spring, summer, and fall with the award winning Fogelbo Trolls, a fun volunteer group that meets every Tuesday morning. We also have week round opportunities for indoor and outdoor Nordia House beautification.
Event Photography:
Do you have an affinity for taking pictures? we are looking for avid photographers to capture the fun and diversity our festivals, fundraisers, programs, concerts, classes, lectures and more with their camera.
Event-Day Volunteering
We're always looking for help at our festivals, programs, concerts, galas and more. Sign up for a shift at one of our seasonal events and help with set-up, check-in, volunteer coordination, games, bar (with current OLCC license), food (with valid food handler's license), kids area, Nordic Northwest booth, admission, decorations, take-down, and more.
Translation
Danish, Swedish, Norwegian, Icelandic or Finnish is your first language? We would love to have you help with occasional translation needs!
