Scandinavian of the Year is a prestigious award given annually by Nordic Northwest to an individual who has made an outstanding contribution to their organization and to the wider Scandinavian community in the Pacific Northwest.

Nominated as a group for two years in a row by different organizations, the Schulbach family trio is a powerhouse of goodwill and action in our local Nordic community. They are the first to volunteer for any job, big or small, always show up prepared, organized – and early! – and you can trust them to take a new idea all the way from planning to effective realization. And they’ve been consistent with their impressive enthusiasm and dedication for the last 4 decades! The Schulbachs work with heart, dedication, creativity, precision and artistic talent to improve our world and keep us intouch with our Nordic, especially Finnish, roots.

Congratulations to Dirk, Christine, and Pirjo Shulbach, our 2019 Scandinavians of the Year.
