About
Come learn how to create your own Himmeli, the traditional Finnish holiday decoration made of natural straw threaded into beautiful geometric mobiles!
Himmeli are traditionally made in Finland during winter with straw from the harvest, and hung above the holiday table to ensure a bountiful year. Many other Nordic and Baltic cultures have similar straw mobile traditions known by various names, that continue to be quintessential holiday decorations, as well as striking decor throughout the year. Himmeli crafts have become popular worldwide, with contemporary versions that can include materials like copper, wood, plastic, paper, and recycled materials.
In this workshop you’ll learn how to make your own himmeli to hang in your home, using traditional methods and wheat straw. Options to try other materials such as colorful paper straws, tissue paper decoration, and pipecleaner versions for younger kids will be available as well.
All supplies and equipment will be provided. Instructor will guide you through each step to create at least one medium-sized, multi-tiered himmeli, with knowledge, instructions, and materials to continue to create at home.
Great for ages 8 and up.
This is a multi-generational activity! An adult guardian is required for children under the age of 18. Adult guardians do not have to purchase a ticket if they only plan to assist their children in the craft. Adults who plan to make their own craft are required to purchase a ticket.
