OUR MISSION

Nordic Northwest is a nonprofit organization focused on the five Nordic nations: Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.

​

The mission of Nordic Northwest is to:

• Highlight, honor, educate, communicate, promote and celebrate Nordic culture and traditions, ancestral, modern and contemporary. 

• Provide value and serve members by developing and making available and accessible Nordic cultural and educational programming that is rich, authentic and forward looking.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS MEETING SCHEDULE

Nordic Northwest members are encouraged and invited to participate in the monthly Board of Directors meetings at Nordia House. Meetings are generally the fourth Monday of each month from 4 to 6 pm at Nordia House. No board meetings in August and December. Please let us know if you are planning to attend by contacting us at info@nordicnorthwest.org.

PRESENT AN IDEA TO THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Any member is encouraged and invited to present a topic/issue directly to the Board, input is appreciated. Presenters will be scheduled at the beginning of the meeting and during the public session. Members have approximately three minutes to present their topic. Post Board meeting, if applicable the Board of Directors will get back to the member regarding board/decision/action. To be placed on the agenda the Board asks members to please complete the form below that intensifies the topic and provides applicable background information.

CODE OF CONDUCT

​

Nordic Northwest is committed to being a welcoming home for Nordic culture and a place where people of all backgrounds can gather, learn, create, and experience community. 

 

We expect everyone who visits our campus, attends our programs and events, participates in Nordic Northwest activities, or interacts in our digital spaces to help create an environment that is safe, respectful, inclusive, and welcoming. 

 

By participating in Nordic Northwest programs, events, or activities, guests agree to follow this Code of Conduct and the reasonable directions of Nordic Northwest staff. 

 

Respectful & Inclusive Behavior 

Nordic Northwest does not tolerate harassment, discrimination, intimidation, threats, or abusive behavior toward visitors, staff, volunteers, performers, vendors, partners, or other members of our community. 

Prohibited conduct includes: 

• Harassment, bullying, threats, intimidation, or physical violence. 

• Discriminatory or derogatory comments, language, gestures, or behavior directed toward an individual or group. 

• Unwanted physical contact, sexual advances, or lewd or inappropriate behavior. 

• Behavior that intentionally disrupts programs, events, or the experience of other visitors. 

• Conduct that creates an unsafe, hostile, or threatening environment. 

 

Hate Symbols, Language & Intimidation 

Nordic Northwest does not permit the display or use of symbols, imagery, clothing, signs, language, gestures, or other materials that are reasonably understood, in context, to promote or intimidate others through hate, violence, discrimination, racial supremacy, Nazism, or other forms of group-based hatred. 

 

Historical symbols or materials may appear as part of an educational, artistic, cultural, or historical program when their use is appropriate to the subject being presented. 

 

Protecting Our Campus, Exhibits & Collections 

Please help us care for the buildings, grounds, artwork, cultural objects, and exhibits that make Nordic Northwest special. Visitors may not damage, deface, remove, or misuse Nordic Northwest property. Please do not touch objects, artwork, artifacts, or displays in our exhibit spaces unless signage or staff indicate that they are intended to be handled. 

 

We ask visitors to respect barriers, signage, restricted areas, historic structures, natural areas, and instructions from Nordic Northwest staff. 

 

Safety 

For the safety of everyone on our campus and at Nordic Northwest programs, visitors may not: 

• Engage in violent, threatening, reckless, or disorderly behavior. 

• Possess, use, or distribute illegal drugs. 

• Smoke or vape inside Nordic Northwest buildings or in areas where smoking is prohibited. 

• Create hazards for other visitors, staff, volunteers, property, or wildlife. 

• Bring weapons onto Nordic Northwest property except where permitted by applicable law and Nordic Northwest policy. 

 

Solicitation, Distribution & Organized Activity 

Solicitation, campaigning, demonstrations, distribution of literature, organized promotional activity, or other use of Nordic Northwest property for an outside organization's purposes requires advance permission from Nordic Northwest. 

 

Outside individuals or organizations may not use Nordic Northwest's name, logo, programs, events, or facilities in a way that falsely suggests sponsorship, partnership, endorsement, or affiliation. 

 

Respecting Fogelbo 

Fogelbo is a historic property and is currently a private residence. Visitors are welcome to appreciate the home and grounds from public areas of the Nordic Northwest campus, but should not enter the house, patio area, or other private spaces unless invited or given permission by Nordic Northwest staff. 

 

Photography & Recording 

Personal photography and video are generally welcome unless otherwise indicated. 

 

Professional, commercial, media, or organized photography and filming may require advance approval from Nordic Northwest. Photography or recording may also be restricted during certain performances, exhibitions, private events, or programs. Please send any requests for pProfessional, commercial, media, or organized photography and filming to communications@nordicnorthwest.org. 

 

Service Animals 

Service animals are welcome at Nordic Northwest in accordance with applicable law. Because Nordia House includes a commercial kitchen and food-service areas, only trained service animals are permitted inside the building. 

 

Pets may be allowed in designated outdoor areas of the campus when appropriate, but may be restricted during certain programs, events, or activities. All animals on campus must remain under the control of their handler and may not disrupt other visitors, programs, or operations. 

 

Reporting a Concern 

If you experience or witness behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, please notify a Nordic Northwest staff member as soon as possible. 

 

We encourage members of our community to speak with staff if something makes them feel unsafe or interferes with their ability to participate in Nordic Northwest programs and spaces. 

 

Violations & Consequences 

Nordic Northwest reserves the right to determine when conduct violates this policy and to take appropriate action based on the circumstances. 

 

Depending on the nature and severity of the violation, actions may include a warning, removal from an event or the campus, denial of admission without refund, cancellation of registration, suspension or revocation of membership or volunteer privileges, restriction from future Nordic Northwest programs or property, or contacting security or law enforcement when appropriate. 

 

Our Shared Responsibility 

Nordic Northwest is a home for discovering and sharing Nordic culture. Maintaining that home is a shared responsibility. 

 

We appreciate everyone who helps us create a place where people can participate with curiosity, respect, and a sense of belonging.
