Nordic culture has a long tradition of harnessing nature’s bright colors in their art and homes, and spending time outside in nature is so important there is a word for it: frutsliv in Norwegian, which roughly translates to "open-air living."
Join us as we enjoy the woods of Nordic Northwest and forage for flowers, grasses, twigs, stems, leaves, bark, and all kinds of colorful natural materials to weave into a rustic loom you make yourself! Your nature tapestry can be refilled over and over with new plants and flowers for an ever-colorful work of nature art for your garden, or inside your home.
Learn the very basics of weaving by making your own simple loom, and using the basic twining technique of weaving. Besides natural materials, you’ll also being using yarn and string and other cordage.
Your instructor will provide you with step-by-step instruction on how to turn simple sticks and string or yarn into looms, and guide students in foraging and then weaving their plants and flowers into their looms. Enough materials will be provided for you to make at least one of each of the three loom structures presented in the class.
