About the Winery
Nestled in the Yamhill-Carlton sub-appellation of Oregon's Willamette Valley AVA, Laurel Ridge Winery began with a vision. In 1974, founder David Teppola purchased an estate he lovingly named Finn Hill—a tribute to his Finnish heritage. The property featured Willakenzie Loam soil, which many of David's industry colleagues dismissed as too nutrient-poor for quality grape production. David, however, recognized its potential for creating complex, nuanced wines by encouraging vines to develop deeper root systems.
Shortly after acquiring Finn Hill, David met and married Susan, who quickly embraced his passion for viticulture. In 1986, the couple transformed their dream into reality, evolving from grape growers to winemakers with the establishment of Laurel Ridge Winery.
Though David passed away in 2006, his philosophy that "fine wine is made in the vineyard and finished in the winery" continues to guide the family business. In 2015, the Teppola’s elder daughter, Kira, took a more prominent role in the winery and shortly after she was joined by her now husband, Lucas. Laurel Ridge is still helmed by Susan, with daily operations ran by Kira and Lucas and strict quality control is provided by Susan’s grandchildren, Marin and David.
Laurel Ridge has earned distinction for its diverse portfolio of whites, Pinots, and bold reds. The winery also holds the historic distinction of being Oregon's first commercial sparkling wine producer.
