ACTIVITIES

Event Activities

Spend the whole day with us by participating in some of the onsite event activities! Visit the Craft Corner and make traditional Nordic-inspired crafts, collect a prize by finishing the Scavenger Hunt, bring home a souvenir by taking your photo taken with Joulupukki (the Finnish Santa Claus) or pose as a true Viking with the famous Viking Ship.

Finnish Santa

Get your picture taken with Finland's jovial Santa, Joulupukki, on a beautifully picturesque set, and benefit Nordic Northwest. He sits in a winter wonderland, welcoming everyone at the gates. This annual tradition goes back many, many years and we are excited to bring it to the heart of Portland during the holiday season.

Cultural Exploration

Always wanted to visit Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, or Sweden? Learn about the Nordic countries by visiting the booths from local organizations, make new friends who can share travel tips and knowledge about the region, check out information about local language schools, and talk to the many Danes, Finns, Icelanders, Norwegians, and Swedes that are in the Portland community

Family Programming

Children and families can make traditional Nordic Christmas crafts, including Danish hjerte(woven hearts), himmeli and Swedish julgranskaramel(poppers) to decorate the Christmas tree. Go on a Nordic children's book character scavenger hunt (with Moomin, Pippi, the Lego Man, Santa Claus, Lucia, Trolls, Vikings and more) and win a prize.

Eating Contests

Match your Nordic taste buds to your stomach. In the all-you-can-eat meatball eating contest and the pickled herring eating contest, anyone is welcome up to our stage to test their limits. Freshly prepared cuisine, Scandinavian's finest!, will be served; how much can you eat? This popular and laugh-out-loud annual event is among the most memorable of the two-day line-up. Are you brave enough to join in?
