About

Slow down, get creative, and discover the rhythm of weaving. In this beginner-friendly class, you’ll explore the possibilities of plain weave, learn a few simple techniques, and see how small variations can create completely different results.

You’ll build your own cardboard loom and create a woven sampler using a provided template or your own design. No experience is needed, just curiosity and a willingness to play with texture, pattern, and color.

About the instructor:

My name is Anna Svensson. I am a Swedish artist based in Portland, Oregon. Growing up in Sweden in a family of crafters, I was trained in Sloyd from a young age. I learned to use and repurpose available resources and make the best of it.

My first memory of working on a loom is from my daycare. I was 5 years old and my teacher told me to just weave until I had filled the whole space. The finished creation became a gift for my grandmother. But learning how to weave was never about the product or creating something remarkable. It was just about weaving. It was a true gift to learn how to weave just for the joy of weaving. I hope to pass that gift on to the participants in this class.
