Get an introduction on how to create your own himmeli, the traditional Finnish holiday decoration made of natural straw threaded into beautiful geometric mobiles.
Traditionally made with rye straw and often very elaborate, himmilis were originally hung over the dinner table to ensure a bountiful harvest. Himmeli crafts have become very popular worldwide, and contemporary versions can include copper, wood, and plastic in all colors.
This workshop will introduce you to the craft by walking you through the process of making smaller himmeli ornaments. As a less complex form of larger intricate himmelis, they are a great introduction to the technique, and are just as beautiful. They can be easily styled to become a frame for small plants or charms, such as air plants and crystals.
This is a multi-generational activity! An adult guardian is required for children under the age of 18. Adult guardians do not have to purchase a ticket if they only plan to assist their children in the craft. Adults who plan to make their own craft are required to purchase a ticket.
All supplies and equipment are provided. Instructor will guide you through each step to create two to three himmeli ornaments.
