Learn how to weave invasive ivy into beautiful baskets!
The Pacific Northwest, like many places, finds its natural areas overgrown with invasive ivy. Luckily all the ivy we pull can be put to creative use! Sustainable living in Nordic countries include many traditions of creative ways to reuse waste materials and transform them into something useful and beautiful.
In this workshop, help clear the ivy that threatens the trees and understory of Nordic Northwest, then learn how to weave the vines into baskets! Beautiful on their own, and fun to experiment weaving with other materials. Bring your own optional materials to experiment with such as yarn, ribbon, raffia, even discarded plastics, fabrics, and other pliable reeds or twigs. Fun materials to experiment with will also be provided.
Your instructor will provide you with step-by-step instruction on how to pull ivy, clean and soak it, and then weave it. You’ll go home with a small finished basket, or start of a bigger basket you can finish at home.
