Bags are always challenging in design and can be complicated felting therefore this is one of the projects you can learn the most about constructional felt making. Bags need have enough pockets, the right closures, the right size, the right depth, the seamless strap etc. Come and design your own small bag/fanny pack in this two-day workshop and learn:
- To make the template
- To enlarge it to the correct size
- To mix different qualities of wool fibers for the best result
- To work around the resist templates to make several pockets
- To add depth and width to a bag
- To choose the correct type of closure
- To full and shape the bag perfectly
We’ll also talk about strap options (strap will not be felted to the bag). By the end of the day, you’ll have a unique fanny pack/small bag designed to your personal needs and all the skills you need to create more independently! The main focus of this class is on shaping and not the surface design.
Fiber arts is a huge part of the culture in the Nordic countries. Felting has a rich history in the Nordic countries and there is a huge modern revival. The history goes beyond modern record keeping. During the cold months in Nordic countries crafting (especially fiber arts) is a great way to pass the time along with using resources that were traditionally on the farm and the land. Join us in this Nordic tradition with a modern take.
