Friluftsliv [free- loves -liv] is the Norwegian philosophy of open-air living or disconnecting from daily stress. What better place to do that than at Nordic Northwest. You will walk through the grounds with arborist and forest-bathing leader Dustin Marchello. Dustin is part owner of Tillis Tree Care (named for his grandmother). This unique experience will leave you rested and inspired.

Forest bathing is the practice of immersing yourself into the forest and allowing nature to enter your body both spiritually and with physical benefits. You will start with some light breathing to help clear your mind from outside influences and be present. After some light breathing exercises we hold a couple standing yoga positions before you begin your journey. Throughout our walk, we may pause so that we may all focus on one of the five major senses. It is purposeful during these pauses to close our eyes, breathing purposefully and then, re-opening our eyes to fall deeper into our senses.

In Dustin’s Own Words:

After 25 years of experience, my views on what I do as an arborist have shifted. I used to view maintaining the safety and function of trees as the primary purpose of my work.  But over the years, I have seen that healthy trees produce healthy people, and that produced a new-found purpose as an arborist.
