About
The Portland Finnish School, Finlandia Foundation Columbia-Pacific Chapter, and Nordic Northwest invite you to a special community event celebrating Finnish culture and storytelling.
The program will feature a performance, The Magic Sampo, presented by our very own Casey Schissler. This reimagined telling draws from the Finnish national epic The Kalevala and weaves together storytelling, original music, and song performed with the lyre.
Casey Schissler—also known as The Bard—is a multidisciplinary writer, poet, musician, singer, and theatrical performer, and the founder of the Bardic Arts Revival movement. Her work draws from the ancient bardic tradition to create a mystical, interactive experience that invites audiences into the story rather than simply asking them to listen.
Guests will also enjoy traditional Finnish comfort foods, including pea soup and oven pancakes, along with coffee and lingonberry juice, all included with admission. A bar will be available with wine, beer, water, and sodas.
Come share an afternoon of myth, music, and Finnish tradition in a welcoming community setting.
