Similar to gingerbread, Pepparkakor cookies are a beloved treat in Nordic countries, especially during the holidays. Called Brunkager in Denmark, Piparkokut in Finland, Piparkakut in Iceland, Pepperkaker in Norway, and Pepparkakor in Sweden, they are deliciously crisp spice cookies made with molasses, ginger and cinnamon, that can also be made into beautiful edible ornaments!
Students will get a chance to decorate prebaked cookies to eat later, hang as ornaments, or give as gifts in a pretty gift bag! Instruction and examples on how to pipe icing will be provided, with examples of designs as well as a variety of different decorations to add. You’ll be able to continue the fun at home with premade Pepparkakor dough.
All students will receive instruction on how to create at least three different piped icing designs, and will leave with at least 6 decorated cookies, a Pepparkakor recipe, and premade Pepparkakor dough to bake at home. Gift bags, and festive ribbon for bags and ornaments will be provided. Plenty of extra cookies will be on hand during the class to taste, if you want to save your decorated cookies for later or to give as gifts!
Great for all ages
This is a multi-generational activity! An adult guardian is required for children under the age of 18. Adult guardians do not have to purchase a ticket if they only plan to assist their children in the craft. Adults who plan to make their own craft are required to purchase a ticket.
