About
Dancing the Christmas tree out of the hall is the festive way to end the holidays with a Scandinavian St. Knut Dance, Mon., Jan. 12, 7:15 pm – 9:45 pm (doors open at 7 pm) at Nordic Northwest (NNW), 8800 SW Oleson Road, Portland. The event is sponsored by Norske Runddansere, Portland’s leading promoter of Scandinavian dancing for over forty years. It is open to the public and features traditional dance tunes from Fossegrimen. No partner is needed. In addition to couples dances, numerous circle dances (mixers) are easily learned by newcomers. Admission is $12 for members and $15 for the public.
The five-member Fossegrimen has been playing lively Scandinavian folk dance music for over 20 years. It features traditional instruments Hardangar fiddle and Nyckelharpa, or key fiddle. NR offers low-impact exercise and socializing through its weekly Scandinavian dance classes open to the public Monday, 7:15 pm, NNW. No partner is needed.
