About
During the years of 1925 through 1952, Henry Steiner, along with his sons John and Fred, built 100 log cabins and two log churches in the forests at the base of majestic Mt. Hood. Not your typical log structures, instead each was built entirely by hand using only logs, branches, roots, river stones, and other materials all gleaned from the forest surrounding each building site, with many pieces chosen for perhaps a quirky bent shape, a fancy burl, an oddly split trunk, or other whimsical characteristic. As a result, every log cabin and church Henry Steiner built was filled with unique hand-crafted architectural features and details, all of which gave them their signature “Steiner” look.
The event is no-cost for New Sweden members and only $10.00 for accompanying friends. There will be a presentation, brief history, and tour. Refreshments will be served after the tour.
