We are excited to kick-off the year with our first wine pairing evening. We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day (also known in the Nordic Countries as Friendship Day) with Björnson Vineyard pouring four of their great wines paired with Icelandic appetizers prepared by the Nordic Cuisine committee.
Icelandic cuisine is known for its fresh ingredients and unique dishes, centered around fish, dairy and meat. Historically, Icelandic people did not grow green vegetables or fruit. Food had to be stored in a way that allowed it to last for a long period. This meant that Icelanders needed to get creative. As a result, dishes were often fermented, smoked, salted and cured. Early in the 20th century, there was a large expansion in Iceland’s fishing industry. This boom in fisheries led to fish becoming a staple of the Icelandic diet. Today, there is a mix of both preserved and fresh foods in Icelandic homes. Foodies across the world come to the island to try iconic Icelandic cuisine.
Throughout the evening you will taste four Icelandic appetizers, each paired with Björnson Vineyard wine (1.5 oz pours). Additional pours and wine will be available for purchase.
