Mini Woven Wall Hanging with The Nordic Knitting Circle

Join this family-friendly class and make your own decorative wall hanging on a clipboard!

All supplies and instruction will be provided by members of Nordic Northwest's very own Nordic Knitting Circle, in honor of October being Fiber Arts Month. This weaving technique is simple enough that young children (5+) can complete it with minimal adult supervision, but rich enough in potential that a crafty adult can easily scale its complexity as desired. Come be creatively crafty with us!

In the Nordic countries, wall hangings not only provided insulation in homes as early as the Viking Era, but were also storytelling devices featuring sagas with mythological, historical, and richly cultural themes. Today Nordic tapestry traditions continue as a form of contemporary textile art, with a dazzling variety of regional styles and techniques on display everywhere. In this workshop we'll make the simplest of wall hangings, and in so doing learn the basics of weaving!

All materials are provided, along with step by step instruction.

Great for all ages 5 and up. This is a multi-generational activity! An adult guardian is required for children under the age of 18. Adult guardians do not have to purchase a ticket if they only plan to assist their children in the craft. Adults who plan to make their own craft are required to purchase a ticket.

Meet your Instructors

The Nordic Knitting Circle has been crafting together since 2020, meeting twice a month to share our love of fiber arts crafts big and small. From knitting and crocheting to weaving and quilting, we do it all and we love it all! But most of all we love supporting each other and sharing our love and knowledge of crafting with each other. This October workshop is one way we thank Nordic Northwest for hosting us at Nordia House.
