About
October is Portland Textile Month! Learn how to weave a colorful narrow band, popular in Nordic cultures and many cultures across the globe for thousands of years and used as sashes, belts, headbands, decorative trim, and straps for bags and musical instruments.
Weaving narrow bands is a fun and portable way to weave, and faster to produce than larger, more complex weaving projects. In this workshop, students will learn a warp-facing plain weave. Not only are they beautiful, but also serve as a great foundation for learning more intricate “pick-up” weaves in the future. Students will learn finishing options to turn their band into a key ring or a bracelet.
All supplies and equipment will be provided. Instructor will guide you through each step to create at least one 8 to 12-inch-long band.
Great for ages 10+ and younger children with some weaving experience.
This is a multi-generational activity! An adult guardian is required for children under the age of 18. Adult guardians do not have to purchase a ticket if they only plan to assist their children in the craft. Adults who plan to make their own craft are required to purchase a ticket.
