About
Learn how to build your own “one-plank” Viking chair using just one piece of reclaimed wood!
Many styles of wooden chairs were made in the Viking era in the Nordic countries, often of two pieces of wood that fit together in interesting ways. In this workshop, learn how to build such a seat out of a single piece of reclaimed lumber and transform it using hand tools into a real piece of outdoor furniture you can take home. Similar to seating made by Vikings, this rustic seat is perfect for stargazing around a campfire or relaxing at a Renaissance fair.
Adventurous builders will learn to saw by hand and use a hand-powered drill – or for the modern Viking – a cordless jigsaw and power drill. No prior woodworking experience necessary, but using hand tools will require moderate strength and stamina.
Students will learn relevant tool safety and receive step-by-step instruction to build one chair to take home. All tools, safety glasses, and gloves will be provided. Attendees are welcome to bring their own favorite gloves or safety glasses from home as well.
This is a multi-generational activity! An adult guardian is required for children under the age of 18. Adult guardians do not have to purchase a ticket if they only plan to assist their children in the craft. Adults who plan to make their own craft are required to purchase a ticket.
Ages 14 and under must have active, hands on assistance from their adult guardian throughout the craft. This is a perfect opportunity for families to build together!
