A Message and Update from Broder Owner, Peter Bro

Hello, Hej, Hallo, Hei, Hallò !!

I wanted to reach out to everyone during this unprecedented time to let the community of Nordic Northwest know that Broder will be coming back as a full service restaurant, albeit with some format changes, as soon as we are allowed to open up to the public again. We truly appreciate the support of Nordic Northwest and all of you who purchased gift certificates from us as vote of confidence. It is heartening to know that we are bolstered by the support of so many who, from the start, wanted us to succeed, not only to enhance a newly reinvigorated cultural cornerstone, but because they really liked our food and staff! That fact makes the prospect of weathering this crisis much more viable and makes the staff feel they have another family that is thinking about their wellbeing and looking forward to seeing them again!

When the full extent of this crisis began to emerge, we decided it would be best to suspend all aspects of our operation and not offer take away options to the community. This decision was made to allow our staffs to safely shelter in place as well as to keep the Nordic Northwest staff free from outside interaction. In the next few months, restrictions will start to be lifted and restaurants like ours will be allowed to open to our dining rooms to guests. We will take every precaution to ensure your and our staff’s health and safety are of prime concern and that the experience you once had at Broder Söder will remain, mostly, intact. Tables will be much further apart and we will have new patio furnishings to enhance the beautiful outdoor space Nordia House provides. We may change our menu slightly to account for restrictions placed on our capacity but many of the items you’ve enjoyed most will still be on it, even herring :) We will also have to go options for guests who would rather not dine in! We will most likely start to take reservations on the weekends to better manage our costs and flow but mainly to not cause our guests to wait in a crowded space, as has been the past norm for most weekend brunch diners. I think that all of the modifications and enhancements we will put in place will not only make your experience safer, it will temper our chance of successfully operating in what will likely be over a year of lower sales and slimmer margins.

As we begin to emerge from our homes and venture out into the world again we hope you will view us as that old friend you can’t wait to see again. We very much look forward to seeing all of your faces in person, and although we will not be able to embrace you we can always do an awkward air hug or elbow tap to welcome you back! We will keep you all posted on our timeline and the details surrounding our safety measures, modified menus, and reservations.

We miss you all and hope this finds everyone safe, fairly sane and in good health!

Take Care,

Peter Bro and the Söder staff
